I definitely like to highlight their memories and their theme accented rooms. It does not matter the room or the space, everyone has something he or she want to highlight and be a focal point when others enter that space. One of the best ways to make those important heirlooms visible is by using a wood wall shelf. Wood wall shelves create the perfect accessories to any room and are multi-functional. One of the surprises about wood shelves is that they can be as individual to personal tastes as the collectibles they display. Time to focus on some of the benefits of wood wall shelves and the value they bring to your home right now.

The wooden wall shelves are a thing of beauty. If the wood shelf is a good and well-patterned hardwood then you have the distinct probability of allowing your collection to be a prominent and well-focused display. However, if the wood is cheap and low-grade, then the overall effect for what is highlighted is probably not going be thought of as highly. This is an important consideration when selecting the wood you want. Cherry is a good wood for shelves. It is hard, durable, and not prone to dings if something hits it. Soft woods, like pine, tend to have the opposite characteristics and as such should be deeply considered before being used. It becomes a matter of shopping for the right wood.

Other consideration with wood wall shelves is that they help to break down the clutter of a space. Wall shelves allow the homeowner to put things up and out of harm’s way, while keeping a room kept up. Wooden wall shelves can be used in different patterns…thus allowing collections to be kept together or to create different themes in a small space. These same shelves can be made in varying sizes to allow for needs that are more functional. With good mounting in place, a wooden wall shelf works to hold a television or other electronic device and to keep desks and dressers clear of clutter. Some shelves can be designed to be seen as a “floating” wall shelf…simply in how the mounting assembly is put into place. Designs can be varied as well…either with a curving pattern or the old school block shape. There are as many shapes to go with, as there is the imagination to bring it to the surface.

Ready-to-finish furniture gives you a wide range of options that can meet all your furniture needs. Wood material is a choice that not only long life but also unique. Solid Wood means that all exposed parts of the furniture are made of solid board, either softwood or hardwood lumber. No veneers or particle boards are used. When solid boards are used in furniture construction, they are glued together side by side along the edges. Remember, “all-wood furniture” is not necessarily solid wood. A veneer can help you achieve the look you desire at a cost lower than solid lumber. Artificial veneers can be overlaid on plywood or particleboard. A plywood core is lighter, less expensive and more forgiving if damaged, but it can swell if it gets wet. If damaged, particleboard will often fracture because the material is so hard it cannot absorb a shock.

When you are ready to buy or already the shop, look at the drawer construction because it is generally a good indication of overall furniture quality. Some drawers have no guides. The lack of guides allows more “play” and can cause the drawer to bind when it is opened and closed. Others have wood-to-wood centre guides, nylon-to-wood centre guides, side-mounted roller guides or centre-mounted metal guides. Many drawers have glue-blocks to strengthen the bottom. Most ready-to-finish chests have wood drawer bottoms not always the case with refinished furniture. Now, as in the past, doweled and dovetailed drawer joints indicate a high degree of craftsmanship. However, modern machine technology, good bonding glue and pneumatically driven staples coated with resin have afforded savings in construction while providing durability.

When trying to complete a wood project art artwork you must be careful of your choice of wood. Numerous species take on different characteristics. They are due to the way that the wood is sawed and cured. There are hardwoods from deciduous trees and softwoods from coniferous trees. There are two basic wood grades. One of the hardwoods is mahogany. It can be used for quality furniture such as cabinets; boat construction; wood facings and veneers. There is also walnut which suits for gunstocks, solid and veneered furniture, novelties, cabinetry and wall panelling. While oak which is strong with good bending qualities and durable can be used for furniture, trimming, boat framing, desks and flooring. Maple has fine textures. It is strong and hard. Has moderate shrinkage and machines well. Best used in flooring, fine furniture and woodenware such as bowling alleys. There is also cherry which can be used as cabinet making, boat trim, novelties, solid furniture handles and turned projects. Another is rosewood. It is very hard and has a dark reddish brown colour. It is fragrant and close grained. It is hard to work and takes high polish. Used in musical instruments, piano cases, tool handles art projects, veneers and furniture. The last is teak which is best used in fine furniture, panelling, shipbuilding, doors, window framing, flooring and general construction.

The other type is softwood, such as pine which has uniform texture, works easy and finishes well. It resists shrinkage, swelling and warping. It used in house construction, panelling and trim, also used for furniture, moulding and boxes. While hemlock is used for construction lumber, planks, doors, boards, panelling, sub flooring and crates. Fir works easy and finishes well. Has low resistance to decay. It can be used in furniture, doors, frames, windows, plywood, veneer, general millwork and interior trim. The other type is redwood which is suitable for outdoor furniture, fencing, house siding, interior finishing, veneering and panelling. Spruce is strong and hard and has moderate shrinkage and light in weight. So that it is used for masts and spars for ships, aircraft, crates, boxes, general millwork and ladders. What about cedar?? Its fresh sweet door and reddish in colour makes it a choice. Then is easy to work and uniform in texture and is resistant to decay. That can be used in chest making, closet lining, shingles, posts, dock planks, novelties and Venetian blinds.
